Why We Love Walking in Green Valley: Living a Walkable Lifestyle in and Around 89074

One of the things my wife, Olga, and I love most about living in the Green Valley area is how much we can do on foot.

We live just outside the 89074 ZIP code, near Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino. Having lived in this area for well over 20 years, we've had the opportunity to watch the neighborhood grow and change. We've also been able to enjoy many of the restaurants, shopping options, and entertainment venues that have come and gone over the years, as well as the ones that have continued to thrive.

For us, being able to walk to dinner, entertainment, and even the grocery store is a big part of what makes this area feel like home.

Walking to Restaurants in Green Valley

One of our favorite things to do is walk to dinner.

Over the years, we've walked to many different restaurants in and around the Green Valley area. Some have come and gone, while others have become neighborhood staples. It's been fun watching the local restaurant scene evolve over the more than 20 years we've lived here.

Our newest favorite is China Mama's newest location, located near our office at St. Rose Parkway and Paseo Verde Parkway in 89074.

If you haven't tried China Mama yet, we highly recommend it. The food is excellent, and having a great restaurant within walking distance of our house and my office makes it even better.

"Shop Hiking"—Our Version of Grocery Shopping

We've also been fortunate enough to have several grocery stores within walking distance of our home, including Whole Foods, Smith's, and Trader Joe's.

All three are within about a mile and a half of our house.

As long as we're not buying too many groceries, we'll put on our hiking backpacks and head out on the sidewalks. We jokingly call it "shop hiking." I'm not sure that's the official term—I've heard people refer to it as urban shopping or walkable shopping—but whatever you call it, we love it.

Of course, there is one major exception: the Las Vegas summer heat.

When temperatures are well over 100 degrees, our walking excursions become considerably less appealing. During the cooler months, though, being able to walk to the grocery store is something we really appreciate.

Walking to Entertainment

Our location also gives us access to several entertainment options without having to get in the car.

We're close to a movie theater and Lee's Family Forum, which provides another great option for entertainment. The arena hosts sporting events, concerts, comedians, and other professional performers throughout the year.

Having these types of destinations nearby makes it easy to make an evening out of the neighborhood without spending a lot of time driving.

What We Love About Living Near 89074

For us, it's not necessarily about being able to walk everywhere. We're certainly not walking to every destination we visit.

It's about having the option.

We can decide to get in the car when it's more convenient, but when the weather is nice and we have the time, we can put on our walking shoes and head out.

After more than 20 years in the Green Valley/Henderson area, we've become so accustomed to this lifestyle that it's difficult to imagine living somewhere where walking to a restaurant, grocery store, or entertainment isn't an option.

Walkability can mean different things to different people. Some people want to be able to walk everywhere they go. Others simply want restaurants, shopping, parks, and entertainment close enough that walking is a realistic option.

After living in this area for more than two decades, we think one of the underrated benefits of Green Valley and the surrounding 89074 area is the combination of established neighborhoods and convenient amenities.

The mature landscaping and established communities give the area a comfortable, lived-in feel, while the restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, and entertainment options continue to evolve.

For Olga and me, being able to walk to dinner, grab groceries, see a movie, or head to an event is simply part of our everyday lifestyle.

And honestly, we've gotten pretty spoiled by it.
